Gaming PCs not completely dead yet

Currently, gaming and technology in general has been centered on mobility and notebooks, generally the desktop PC doesn’t get much attention. Lenovo however has introduced their new desktop, the IdeaCentre K430 gaming desktop. While most of us are too busy playing (Skyrim, Star Wars: The Old Republic, or all the other wicked games you choose to indulge in) to look away from the screen for a few minutes, the K430 came as a bit of a surprise among the showing of the new ultrabooks coming out.

The starting price for the K430 is $599, however that’s the bare minimum. Upgrades are always good, and Lenovo is doing just that. You can upgrade, adding AMD or Nvidia graphics cards. Memory can go up to a whopping 32GB. For hard drives itself, you’re looking at a 4TB storage god.

If you’re not a massive nerd like I am, the simplicity of the specifics of the K430 are definitely going to be something to look at.

Of course though, anyone who is generally a hardcore gamer would have already built their own computer. But not all of us know how to build a computer, and for the pre-assembled market, this is a computer to consider when looking for a new one.

U.S. Cellular – Samsung Galaxy Tab to Android 2.3.5

It might not be the belle of the ball any longer, but U.S. Cellular has approved an update for  the original 7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab, bringing it some Gingerbread live in the form of Android version 2.3.5.  While it’s not Honeycomb or Ice Cream Sandwich, it is a vast improvement over the Froyo (Android 2.2) build the Tab shipped with, and should breathe new life into your faithful electronic companion.  Besides the advantages of Gingerbread itself, the change log has a few nice bullet points:

  • VPN support
  • Improved volume control when playing a video or movie while listening with a headset
  • Google security patches:  DigiNotar certificate revocation; Libpng security update
  • Remove auto accept of Bluetooth paring for Handsfree Profile (HFP). This vulnerability allows a nearby third-party to auto connect to Bluetooth HFP and potentially access contact data on the mobile device.

VideoStream – Sync Videos Across iOS Devices Over iCloud

A couple of months ago, the photo stream feature was introduced to allow the syncing of photos across iOS devices and desktop computers instead of the messy plug-and-play. The feature only supported images, not videos. Apple and the carriers probably don’t want people sending huge video files over their networks. With the iPhone4S now recording 1080p video, that would be a lot of data going over 3G.
